Reporter asks "president's views on slavery"

Even White House correspondents can ask stupid questions. April Ryan, with the American Urban Radio Networks, asked the press secretary what Obama thought about enslavement.

It's questions like these that distract from the actual interrogation reporters should be doing.

For the record, Gibbs' response was great.

  1. Stupid question, but do you think this reporter, given the org she represents, has a reason for asking this question? What are your thoughts on crafting a story with a particular question in mind--and then just going for it? (I'm doing it now....)

  2. I would have never known about this if you hadn't posted it - thanks! It's very interesting that someone would ask this, and I wonder like Professor Usher if there was a certain reason for it.

  3. This is such a valid question! Institutionalized racism is still prevalent whether people are willing to take it seriously or not and clearly the reporter who asked this question is aware of that.

  4. HAHAHAH. that is great - no shit he's opposed. go america. im glad that gibbs was able to laugh about it - but also funny that the reporter got so snippy with him (even though, indeed, slavery is a serious topic. i am glad the president is opposed)

  6. I love when people have fun doing their jobs -- made me smile. But to be fair she probably had a more involved question coming up
